Demographics: This section presents information on the population size, age and sex structure and spatial distribution (region) for children under-5 years of age and children aged 5 to 9 years. The data come from the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Population Division, World Population Prospects: The 2019 Revision (medium variant).
The world population will continue to grow but the child population remains stable with continuous growth only expected in sub-Saharan Africa in the next few decades. The population will shift towards Africa over the next decades and urbanization will continue with more people living in urban than rural Africa by 2034.
